Yep. Any time you expect your transmission to stay cool when you're working it hard at low speed for extended periods, that's the hot ticket. As long as you get a properly rated thermostat in there, as the example you gave does. Another option, if you've got the factory aux cooler, is to rig up your own fan and thermostat with the fan in front of the factory unit. If you also do a lot of highway driving in serious cold weather stuffing a fan on the factory unit might be a better option as it might help to avoid overcooling.

+1 on the above link! I did the exact same install, but I bought a peracool external filter that has a trans temp sensor and gauge!

I also bought a plate style b&m cooler with cold oil bypass, and I have it plumbed in after the factory cooler!
(make sure if you stacked them you plumb the aftermarket one in after the oem one! The factory one has some kind of sensor and it will read the temp as too cold!)

Trans temp sensor for the PCM is part of the governor pressure sensor on the RE transmissions, on the RH flavor, it's an actual sensor on the cooler line, right by the trans. No sensors beyond that.

Ok well I was told to put the aftermarket cooler after the factory cooler for best effect.

I also put the external filter before all of that, so my temp readings are almost right out of the trans pan

would that be a good improvement over stock lol? and i'm gonna make sure to remove that check vavle when i do my tranny cooler..

I bought a Hayden many years ago for another vehicle and been happy with it. I put one of these on my Ram about 6 months ago. Got it from a tranny shop in Abilene for about $40. Looks like the same one.
