I agree with putting kerosene through the crankcase as a bad idea, but I have no knowledge or experience with it.

Yours looks clean compared to mine! I just broke up the carbon with a screwdriver and a shop vac to make sure nothing fell down in the motor. When I did the rockers the DS valve cover had a lot of build up too. Just scraped it out, put it back together, ran the truck for a few minutes, then changed the oil. You should be fine just watch the oil pressure make sure it's not too high or low after it back together. And you should have seen the plenum, it had 3/8ths inch thick carbon buildup all the way across.

Wow what alot of junk!

I dropped the pan on mine and went ahead and spent a few hours cleaning the top and bottom side with diesel. Everything falls down to the floor when the pan is not there, then you just clean the bottom and your all set.

It still might blow up but I think the cleaning really helped, amazing how much junk can build up.

Hell that does not look that bad. I would just get the big stuff with a shop vac and call it good.

i got this. here's a translation:

some old mechanics told me this

i pulled the oil drain plug and put diesel in the oil and let it drain out.
repeat that a few times, waiting a bit in between each time.
then put the drain plug back in and fill the oil pan with diesel and prime a new oil filter with diesel
start the motor. watch the oil pressure gauge and let it idle for 10 seconds
shut it off and pull the drain plug on the oil pan again. let it drain for 20 or 30 minutes.
then refill the motor with new oil. new filter.
unplug the coil and use the starter to cycle the motor for 10 seconds or so.
plug the coil in, start motor check oil pressure.

done.

What if he were to drop the oil pan and clean out the motor with gas? Would it work any better then kero or kinda the same?

I put some gas in a degreaser spray bottle, and it works well with a little scrub brush for little hard to reach areas, but I've NOT done this for actual internal motor cleaning.

In my experience gas cleans well so just curious the negative or positive affects of using gas instead of a degreaser or kero.

Rub olive oil all over your hands and it will completely remove the gas smell

Another thing to try is run 4 quarts engine oil and 1 quart ATF. Idle it for a half hour then drain and change the oil. Did that on mine, because the rings were stuck and i was getting compression all across the board in the 110's. Did that little trick, now I'm reading 132-134 all across the board...
Made my front yard smell like an Oil Refinery though....
