Removed plenum, everything is filthy...what to do?
I removed my plenum today and will be replacing it with the Hughes kit. ( I had alot of problems that are documented in another thread.)
The plenum has 4 blown out spots and is covered in oil inside and out but that is expected.
Under the valve cover all the push rods and everything is covered in basically tar or burned oil and there is even some dirt in there.
Any idea what caused this? I keep up with oil changes but have had the plenum leak bad enough to cause a CEL (cylinder 8) for about 4 months.
How do I clean this up, is there anything I can do?

Well.... seems you gotta drop the oil pan anyway...... use some nasty chemicals, and flush out as much as you can. (mineral spirits, kerosene, or something similar.) Just don't leave any chunkies drifting around loose.
I should just be asking you all my questions but........
If I was it all out with diesel or something is there any area to worry about it getting into or can I just take a scrub brush and go to town?
listen i did a blown up dakota one time and discussed wit several old timers around my house and the guys at napa and wat i did was poured diesel in and wit no drain plug and repeted couple wat ever a few maybe.. then trust and listen i did it ..put plug in and fill it to normal oil level but do it wit diesel only wit new oil filter primed wit a lil diesel after that you can start the engine moniter the oil pressure gauge n amazingly it will go up but idle it for no more then 10 good seconds and shut it off and open plug and filter and take lunch to drain then replace with oil and new filter unplug the coil and rotate the engine for 5-10 secs and then plug bak in and moniter the oil pressure the entire time

I gave up after 2 tries. I like to think that i have a working knowledge and basic understanding of the English language, and profess to have no such relatinship with any OTHER language......but I didn't get that s*** at all!
Gave up and moved to read another thread....in English.....
