Default Removed plenum, everything is filthy...what to do?

I removed my plenum today and will be replacing it with the Hughes kit. ( I had alot of problems that are documented in another thread.)

The plenum has 4 blown out spots and is covered in oil inside and out but that is expected.

Under the valve cover all the push rods and everything is covered in basically tar or burned oil and there is even some dirt in there.

Any idea what caused this? I keep up with oil changes but have had the plenum leak bad enough to cause a CEL (cylinder 8) for about 4 months.

How do I clean this up, is there anything I can do?

Well.... seems you gotta drop the oil pan anyway...... use some nasty chemicals, and flush out as much as you can. (mineral spirits, kerosene, or something similar.) Just don't leave any chunkies drifting around loose.

I should just be asking you all my questions but........

If I was it all out with diesel or something is there any area to worry about it getting into or can I just take a scrub brush and go to town?

You can pour mineral spirits in there? That's scary to me.

my old man was a mechanic in the 50's and 60's and thats exactly what the guys used to do back then.diesel or kerosene in the oil pan and crank that engine over.ive got a real old service manual here of my dads that gives you a how to on the subject.

I gave up after 2 tries. I like to think that i have a working knowledge and basic understanding of the English language, and profess to have no such relatinship with any OTHER language......but I didn't get that s*** at all!

Gave up and moved to read another thread....in English.....
