Default Tranny problem maybe?

I was just driving home (15 mile drive from where i was) and the whole way home truck ran fine. Then about a mile down the road i stopped at a red light. When it turned green i went to go and my truck moved but not as responsive as it was. I pressed on the gas and i couldn't get above 30 mph. if i pressed harder it just seemed to bog down. and the tranny would shift pretty hard.

When i did get home i parked and heard an odd noise it sounded like it was coming from the catalytic converter but sense the tranny is right there i assume it to be coming from the tranny. It sounded like there was something rolling/rattling around inside.

When i checked my atf it was above the max mark but was all bubbly.

If you have any questions about the symptoms ill try to answer them best i can.

Thanks for any help.

It makes sense you'd have frothy ATF if it's running above full. Was it above full last time you checked it?

It sounds like your cat's likely a goner. Try unscrewing the front oxygen sensor and then go for a drive to see if it's greatly improved over what it was. If so, the cat's clogged and continuing to drive with it that way will get expensive fast in the form of at least one cracked head.

Take out the pre cat 02 sensor, and see if it runs better.

Don't go for a long ride because eventually the o2 censor will cause the truck to run bad because it is not in the exhaust.

I missed that you already did the o2 sensor removal.

Was it almost perfect for the first little bit?

After a o2 sensor is out for a bit it will start to freak out because its in clean cool air and then the truck will bog down and want to shut off, at least mine did.

well i unplugged it completely. yes it did seem to run fine for about 2 miles. then it started messing up again. i couldnt get above 20 mph no matter how far i pressed the gas. it just seemed to bog down.

What would the rattling noise be?

unplugged it? or removed it? you're gonna want it removed, not just unplugged..

I'm with the others, what you're describing sounds like a really plugged up cat.. most likely due to a blown plenum gasket.. there is a sticky at the top of the forum, it may be of interest to you..

oh, and the rattling? parts and pieces of your disintegrated catalyst..

No im sorry i unplugged it and removed it.

Ive had my eye on the plenum thread for sometime. But i cant afford to tackle that project right now. When i do it i want to do it right. replace everything while i have the kegger off. And i want to be prepared for any obstacles like broken bolts clogged bolt holes etc...

The plenum is really under $100 if you have the tools to do the project.

A cat is going to be $100 for a universal type replacement and a full cat with the full tubes will be much more.

I would see if your using oil first and figure out if its a plenum because if your cat is clogged or o2 sensor is shot its a result of the plenum.

Crawl under it, then knock on the cat as you would a front door. If you hear chunks flopping around in there, it is the cat. if you are in a state that does not smog testing, you can remove the cat & replace with straight pipe.
