I doubt it, maybe it's just that pretty grip on the outside that does the job.

So would you recommend returning it and getting a better one?

No, next oil change just get a Wix, napa gold, puralator 1, baldwin, mopar or some other decent brand. And a search here on DF will give you a lot more opinions on the subject.

My next oil change is due at the end of the month and I will be trying these two products. No more paper oil filters for me, the filters are a two piece design, sort of old school. Has anybody tried any of this stuff?

Canton Racing Products SPIN-ON FILTERS part# 25-262 series 200, replacement filter element CAN26-000
Liqui Moly Motor Oils Synthoil Premium 5 W-40

ok...I'll bite. Fram filters are garabage.... They are made of cardboard and paper on the inside and often come unglued and fall apart... the thing is usually no one would know if thats happened... If fram spent half as much money on the product as they do on marketing they would have a decent product... but marketing makes more money than quality product in this case because no body cuts their old filters open to check what really going on in there...

Fram is now owned by honeywell...They are the same guys that bought the autolite name and closed down all the plants and moved production to third party factories out of the country... funny thing...I replaced my autolite plugs that said "made in the USA" about three years ago on my vw with ones that said "made in mexico"... they were of poor quality with electrodes not even being centered on some... last year I replaced those plugs and the replacements said made in Taiwan ....
I replaced the autolites in the ram 2 days ago (went with autolite since thats all they had for my truck in stock as far a copper plugs...
Anyway the new Autolites say "designed in the usa" (these ones were designed by autolite when they were an actual amaerican company prior to honeywell taking over) and manufactured in china under license from honeywell... so they have finally gone full circle and moved production to where just about everything will soon be made they just Buy the credible name brands and sell third party china garbage with the name slapped on it.
Its happening with everything...for example did you know levis jeans went out of business years ago and the name was sold to an Egyptian company....
hell we even have chevys made by deawoo in korea now

And that's happened with a hell of a lot more than just spark plugs......
