Default a few questions

to start i have a 2001 ram 1500 off-road edt.
out of curosity is the 46RE a 3speed transmission with an O/D or a 4 speed with O/D

next i pulled my front diff cover off to chance fluid when i did there was a lot of metal shavings in there, so a buddy that i work with said he can pull it appart and rebuild my front diff, and was woundering what size R&P were in there and if i should stay with that size or go bigger and if so what size, and will it affect 2wd driving, and hiway driving?

thanks.

Need better thread title geez as it doesn't help anyone searching for similar information.

1. 3 speed with O/D as the 4th.
2. If you really do have the ORE, then its 4.10 gears.
3. Shavings in the front diff? Not good. You only need to change the gearing if you plan on running larger tires, like > 37s. Some will say > 35s. Dependent on your driving and usage of the truck.
4. Affect 2wd and highway driving? No idea what is behind that question.

i was woundering if by changing the gearing in the front end would change highway driving and major mpg. also just checking if it is a off-road edit. the front gearing is the same as the rear? 4.10? also if i change the front should i change the rear to match?

Front and rear gear ratios MUST match, otherwise, first time you try and use 4wd, you will break things. Usually expensive things.......
