Default "kalifornia" gross polluter !

'98 Ram 1500 5.9 magnum
recently tried to get it smogged......"gross polluter"

guy at the smog shop said to start with the o2 senser, maybe the cat.
I cant do the work myself, soooooo.....gotta take it to a shop for any repairs !

suggestions-comments-thoughts ?

thanx in advance !

OK...now I have some real issues goin on !
Because of the "wcrx #'s" on the emissions label,(under the hood).
There is not a replacement cat available !existing cat is probably bad...(exhaust smells rich)
How else can tell if your cats bad ?
Here in "Kalifornia",if your "wcrx" # doesnt match up,I cant buy a replacement cat ?

Could some of you guys check your emission labels on get back to me about your "wcrx #) ?
The label is right there by the hood latch when ya pop the hood

allowable wcrxa0360h31 /h32 /j31
mine wcrxt05.95b1
wcrxe0174gdh

All you need is to order the sensors online (or get them at the auto store for twice as much)... unscrew the old ones from your exaust and screw the new ones in them plug the connecter back in... its pretty easy (I just did mine)
if your cat really is clogged then you may have a blown plenum gasket of something else causing you to burn oil...Then take it to the shop. also seafoam / plugs wires cap and rotor cant hurt if its been a while..

Per your response, take it to a shop and be done with it. Not much further can be said on this.

Well it seems like "Kalifornia" has me boxed in as for smogability

interestling enough...I'm told if I claim a rural address for the truck I dont have to even get smogged at all ?

Anybody here in "Kalifornia" that could verify that ?

Where are you putting the Seafoam? And if you don't mind me asking, why can't you replace the o2 sensors yourself? Also, does the sticker under the hood, say Federal or Cali emission. ?
