Default dana 60 f/r swap time!

hey guys... well now that tax season has arrived... im getting just shy of 5k back. 4200 is going to a new fisher 8' hd straight blade plow, and im trading my old plow for a set of d60's.

on the rear axle... will my current '01 drivesahft fit it, or what? will the front drivesahft need to be changed?

oh and im going to 4.10's! ill be staying with drums, mainly because i dont feel like changing my master cylinder, or any other brake equiptment.

the guy im getting them from said i wont have to remount my spring perches on the rear axle, and that the only difference is that the 2500/3500 center pin is larger than the 1/2 tons.

is there anything else that im missing, or any advice you guys can throw at me would be greatly appreciated!

3/4 ton and up trucks have wider springs as well. 1/2 ton is 2.5 inch, 3/4 and 1 ton are 3 inch.

Driveshaft might need to be shorter....... not sure on that. If your bud still has the originals, might wanna grab them too. (along with the 241 t/c??) U-joints are most certainly a different size. You might be able to get a joint that has the larger caps for the yoke side though. They make some pretty weird combinations.

you can notch the spring perches on the 60's so that you can reuse your current u-bolt set-up

If your doing this swap but also going for lift in the rear what do you do about rear spring? I know you can notch the spring perch to reuse the current u bolts but does that mean any 3/4 and 1 ton lift springs are still going to be to wide or what?

Also for a 1/2 truck doing this swap, is it better to just do 60 front and rear or is it better to throw a 70 or 80 in the rear?

Dana 60 will be just for just about anything in the rear.

so, now that i know i dont have to modify the perches.... do i need to get a drveshaft for a 3/4 ton, or will my stock drive shaft fit the d60?

the rear will need to be shorter from what heyyou said, so whats the spline count on the 231 vs the 241 t-cases?

its going to be my spring/summer project because my pinion bearing on the 9.25 has been bad since i bought the truck 10/2009.

the output splines should be the same. dodge was good about interchangeability. if you can just compare your 1500 d shaft to the 2500 d shaft. in the front i will all be about the ujoint size. any d shaft shop should be able to get you a ujoint that will work

heres what ive found so far.....

The LD output shaft is 32 spline
The DHD output shaft is 31 spline, but larger in diameter.

and the 231 is a 32 spline output shaft.

so i think im going to try to find a 241dld and swap out the t-case.... we shall see how the cash flow is after i get my plow, and buy my neighbors generator(tired of lack of power when psnh cannot do their job during ice/heavy snow storms).

my other thought is get a drive shaft out of a 2500, and put the slip yoke from my 1500 d-shaft on the 2500 d-shaft.

The splines on the 231 you were going to buy from me has 31 splines not 32. And for the yoke on the rear, u can get ujoints with 2 different size caps. Only issue might be length as previously stated.

well... im kinda debating this swap, because i am basing this project off my tax refund, and trading my old plow for the axles to the guy in houlton maine. but i dont jnow if it comes with the d-shafts, or not...

Z do you know if the front drive shaft from a 2500 np241 will bolt to a np231?
