Default how can u tell its hi flow

I wanted to upgrade alittle and read around the forums about what would be good to start with, a upgraded y pipe and high flow cat sounds like a good start, my question is how does someone know its a high flow compared to a stock flow? I have a 01 and was wondering if someone had a link to a part #

Magnaflo makes the most common ones. Some of them are direct bolt-ins, but, they can run some bucks...... A cheaper route might be picking up an 'off road' y-pipe, and then splicing a high-flo cat into it. If the cat is a high-flo variety, it will usually say so in the ad.

Make sure the plenum gasket is not blown, before spending any money on a new cat. And replace the o2 sensors also. (NTK brand). Get them from Rock Auto and use the discount code from the thread in the general discussion section.

thanks for the response Hey and Zman, I dont think there is anything wrong with the plenum, no fouled plugs or loss of power, just making a wish list for when uncle sam gives me my money back. BTW do O2 sensors have a suggested life span? I used to have a Jetta thet told you to change the 02 after a mileage timer went off.

I like to replace them at 60K miles or so..... doesn't mean I always do though...... If yours are over 100K, it's definitely time for new ones.

Walker Version. On summit racing. 230 bucks.

Magnaflo. 260 and some change.

Might be able to find better deals elsewhere as well.

If its not fouling any plugs or burning any oil its just as reasonable to think its good as it would be not to rip a transmission out and replace it when functioning fine... they dont all fail...we just usually here the failure stories here...bad news travels twice as far and fast as good news. And at 225k its pretty reasonable to think if it was going to fail it would have by now... and likely would have been replaced already if so from related issues.
