in a bind...
First off, sorry I can't search or type well - im on my phone.
In a bind. GF was driving my truck to Halifax. Everything is fine. She stops in Sackville NB for gas. Starts up and takes off and heads for the highway. Gets on the highway and suddenly the engine is revving but she isn't going. She pulls to the shoulder and calls. No matter the gear it wouldn't go. I had her turn it off then all. It worked.... but was slow... would get up to about30kph then same issue. She was able to limp it off the highway by turning it off, then on and drive a few hundred meters before it would just rev.
Clearly not good. It was towed to a shop and we got her a hotel for the night. The bind is worse since im on my way to Trenton, ON for my parallel course so obviously no where near the truck. The shop it is at is not a transmission shop. I talked to the guy for a minute and he was saying he could find a transmission at a junkyard for about 1000 - 1500 then another 500 to pit it in. Clearly not ideal. Extra ****ty since I wad just talking to HeyYou about rebuilding my transmission.
So... thoughts? Could this be something more simple then it seems? There is a transmission shop a city away in amherst, but they are apparently busy. I don't want to slap a used one in there... I'll be paying big bucks and probably see another transmission issue down the road. Gah .... bloody stupid and horrible timings. Any feedback would be appreciated.
And no, wasn't having any major problems prior. It slipped once or twice, but went back into gear. That is what prompted me to talk to HeyYou. Wanted to preempt a failure. Guess.im the one that failed.

is it just low on fluid?? (check in neutral)
That price for a used trans is flippin' outrageous. No way I would go for that. They could get a NEW Jasper, or similar reman for that kind of price. But, that would just be a stock rebuild. Could order one up from PATC, but, that would be a few days for shipping.... probably not what you had in mind. Only other alternative I can see is having it towed to a 'real' trans shop, and having it rebuilt.

Hi, this is the GF posting on behalf of my BF.
I also want to add that someone at the gas station checked the trans fluid and it was darker then it should be (it was dark outside so I can't say if it was completely burnt or not) and it had a burnt smell (I didnt actually smell it but they said it was)
The truck is an automatic transmission, not 5 speed.

Hi Heyyou,
I am currently back in Halifax and the truck is at the shop but they are busy and will not be looking at the truck until sometime in the beginning of the week and will not actually do anything without talking to us first.
The truck is in Sackville NB and there is a actual trans (Transmission Guy) shop in Amherst NS 15km away.
I just talked with my BF and he said that you had sent him a list of things he needed to rebuild the transmission. He was wondering if you could post that list so that I can call the transmission shop, give them the list and get a quote.
My BF will not be at a computer for awhile because he is driving to Ontario for his course an once his course we do know know how much free time he will actually have. He said that he would mail you a Canadian Beer for your help
not at a comp wint be for awhile
write a breakdown of what is needed so that i can call amherst to get a quote
