Default 97 ram no start

i'll try to keep it short. i traded for a 97 ram 1500 4x4 the trans was in the bed i installed it and installed a new crank sensor due to it being broken.also the o2 sensors were yanked out and wires hanging loose.
the plug for the neutral safety was different then the old one so i wired two of the wires to gether so it would turn over.
but it will not start. there is no ground signal to the ASD relay or fuelpump relay
i can manualy ground them and i will get fuel to the engine and 12 volts to the coil that way but it still will not get a signal to activate the coil.

i have traced the two ground wires from the panel back to the ecm and they are good. i have also tryed my ecm in another truck and it will strt and run just fine so i am confident the ecm is good.

my question i guess is how does it get the ground signal for the asd and fp relays? and will it run ata all or fire at all with out the o2 sensors? what am i missing here? thanx in advance.

PCM grounds ASD and fuel pump relays. Bad ground after PCM? Does the fuel pump prime at all when you first turn the key on?

no it will not. the only time it will run is if i ground the fp relay then turn the key on. and same with the ASD relay.

Try swapping the ASD relay with the horn relay, and see if that changes anything.

I swapped relays installed new relays even tho the original relays tested good. i am not understanding why it is not getting a ground signal to the asd relay or the fuel pump relay.
i can add ground to them but it still will not fire. if i ad a ground to the fuelpump relay it will fuel when turned over but still no fire.

the coil tests good according to the ohm meter. but i do know that thats not allways true to be good either.

how can i test the distributor? thats about the only thing i can think of in the equation to keep it from fireing

Check for spark at the coil. If you aren't getting spark there, the distributor is not the problem. (sensor in the dist is cam position sensor, has nothing to do with ignition.) If you aren't getting power to the coil (asd relay handles that) then your aren't going to get spark......

Grab the 96 service manual from the faq section. Have a look at the wiring diagrams for the ignition circuits. Make sure that the PCM is actually getting power when you turn the key on.

Do your gauges do anything when you turn the key, or crank the engine?

i will look for this diagram you mentioned.
the only time it will get 12 volts to the coil is if i add a ground to the asd.
when you turn it over it will show that the oil pressure is building but tach dose not move.
i will check for power at the ecm when i can find the diagram you mentioned

Tach not moving may be an indication of a failed crank sensor. That would also trigger an ASD event, cutting power to the coil/injectors...... may wanna pull the crank sensor, and see what it looks like, and do a resistance check across the pins.

i put a new on in it due to the original being broken when someone pulled the transmission. i did do a signal check on it after installing it and it does work. i will mess with it more over the weekend.

Pull the new one out and look at the end of it to see if it is rubbing on flexplate. Check it HeyYou mentioned and also compare the old one that was broken with the new one. Are they the same length (if it is not too badly damaged to tell).
