Default Vacuum leak?

Right below my power steering I can hear a loud hissing noise, I can't quite find where it is exactly coming from, but I don't know if it's a leak or if that steering pump always make a hissing noise.

what's the best way to check? I've got some carb cleaner.. hah.

off the top of my head, i'm not aware of any vac hoses under the power steering. the closest hose would be coming over the top of the engine to the cruise control under the battery tray.

to rule out power steering pump noise, temporarily disconnect the serpentine belt and run the engine. beware the water pump is not turning and it will overheat quickly - so don't ponder it too long.

But is it normal to have a hissing noise in that general area? between pump and battery.

i don't think so.

i helped replace a leaking cruise hose in a jeep which is the same setup. it was whistling/hissing pretty loud and wouldn't hold speed on cruise.

Well, actually. When I am on Cruise Control. My vehicle will actually start speeding up FAST on it's own. I won't press anything and it'll just start taking off. I'm afraid to use that thing. Maybe that might have something to do with it?

i'm not an expert on how the cruise controls the throttle up/down, but - maybe a leak could cause a speed up??

locate the cruise diaphragm thingamajig under the battery. inspect all soft lines between there and the intake manifold on the passenger side. replace any splits or dry rots with the same size. its sold by the foot at any part store. you can cut off a piece of your old to match size.

My power steering makes a hissing noise when it's low on fluid. And if your cruise control doesn't work that's a good indicator of a vacuum leak

My cruise control will work majority of the time, just sometime it'll speed up on it's own. My fluid is good.

Sticky solenoid in the cruise module, or, an output speed sensor on its way out.
