Default how to replace valve cover gasket '99 Ram

Can someone provide me information on replacing the valve cover gaskets on my 1999 Dodge Ram?
What steps are involved, what supplies needed and do the valve cover bolts require certain torque specs?
Thanks in advance!

Grab the 01 service manual from the faq section here. Procedure will be in there, including torque specs. Not really a bad job, just watch out for the breather side of the PCV system. The grommet drys out, and its a DRAG to get that thing back in there. You can get new ones from the parts store, in the "help" section, for pretty cheap.

This thread. Grab the 01 service manual, it will be the closest for your truck.

Thank you very much for the quick response! After reading the section on replacing the valvle cover gasket, I was a little surprised to read it did not require any type of gasket sealer of some sort.

no sealer. if you can afford them - get the very nice, and very expensive felpro rubber gasket set. they are (or were) about $39 at parts store but check amazon and rockauto for much lower pricing.

i replaced my rubber grommets but can't recall if i found them at the parts store or dealer. either way they were not expensive.

assuming you remove some wires just put a piece of tape on each one to document where it came from, as well as it makes it more visible so you're less likely to forget it.

I am going to be doing this when I get a chance, which it is winter now so that means spring time! Please follow up with this thread when you are done and fill me in on how things went, what was hard, and anything else that might come in handy that is not in the manuals!

Thanks!

Brad

It was actually an extremely easy task. Took me less than an hour to take them off, clean them (paint them if you want) and replace with proper torque. You need a deep 12 mm I believe, could be smaller

Oh and buy disposable medium duty gloves from harbor freight. Best investment I've made on my truck

Yes this is an extremely easy job, the worst part of it is all the damn wires going to sensors and the intake. Just take bolts out, pull cover off, clean off old gasket if its stuck, and then just put the new gasket on and bolt the cover on. The felpro gaskets cost me like 20 bucks from napa.
