Best Way to Clean Engine Bay
It gets wet driving in the rain. It gets ice packed up in it in the snow.
My method?
Get engine up to operating temp. Shut down. Spray a liberal amount of quality glass cleaner or something like Simple Green, purple power, etc on all the engine componants, fender wells, firewall, core support, etc.
Start engine and run it back up to temp. Allow it (cleaner/degreaser) to remain on for fifteen minutes, keep spraying in order to keep it from drying up.
Then use a hose and carefully spray the entire area down (Don't spray directly into the alternator or distributor or intake for heaven's sakes). While it's still wet, liberally spray the entire compartment down with Armor-All high shine and allow to dry.
I've used this trick for years at car shows on a modern fuel injected car. Results may vary. Use this procedure at your own risk. Call your physician if rash worsens or lasts more than ten days.
