I wouldn't worry about it being bone dry either, when I bought my truck mine was bone dry as well and I've had no problems for over a year

hey man i pulled my tail shaft housing off and there was a ring but it wasnt bent broke or damanged! so i took further action and took the transfercase out of my truck pulled it apart and there was all kinds of shavings so i took all the gears out to check the teeth and everything was good except the range fork! its all wore and the shavings came from it! i was wondering would i be able to reuse the gear the rang fork holds and where could i get a range fork??

Transfer case parts.

Replace the fork, AND the gear. You don't wanna have to do this twice. Make sure you get the cute little feet that go on the fork. They ride in the grove in the gear, to prevent metal to metal contact.

I was going to say the same, you need a range fork and possibly a range hub. My TC ran dry, ate up the teflon pads, then ate all the way through the fork. Then it decided to shift into neutral on the highway, fun times. I managed to work it into 4lo andmade the 5 mile trip home at 4000 rpm, hoping the truck would just blow up already. I picked up a fork for $68 at a tranny supplier. It was easy to install, just watch carefully how your TC comes apart and put it back together in reverse order.
