i have tried bars. and its alright, but i have also tried Blue Devil. it has a guarantee on it, that it will work or money back, but it does cost like 40 bucks.

Well I tried two bottles of this product from nappa to seal it up and had no luck. It would stop but start again. Gave up and got the gasket kit for 13 bucks. Just called it quits for the night but I have all the water pump bolts out. It's starting too look like a bigger job then I was hoping.

you can't seal the weep hole. its an indication that the water pump is worn out.

water pump leads to timing chain cover (water passages).
timing chain cover leads to timing set and front seal. (excellent repair!)
timing cover leads to plenum repair.... (another excellent repair!)
its a big vicious circle.

I've got the same leak myself, not from the weep hole but from the gasket behind the timing cover. It's just barely noticeable now but I'm planning on fixing it when I do the plenum job. I figure I will do the water pump, timing chain and gears, front seal, oil pan gasket, and the plenum job all at the same time. Thats the plan anyway.

Yea, if my truck wasn't my only set a wheels I'd like to do the timing chain and sprokets but now I know how to do it so it will take a second next time around. I've got the timing cover off and about to reinstall. I had some pitting on the top left corner of the timing cover and the block itself, hence the leak. I was missing about an inch of gasket when I removed the old one. Wondering if just a new gasket is fine or should I put gasket sealer on the gaskets? The timing cover didn't have gasket seal on it but the water pump did. Any suggestions? Thanks.

It's common to have pitting there. The depth of it should be considered though. If its not too bad, then yes RTV or gasket maker, etc. in healthy dose of the area would be my recommendation. Applied on BOTH sides of the gasket.

Others here may have better approaches though as I've only done this recently.

Exactly right. If it's really bad.... I have even seen replacement timing covers for under 50 bucks. I was quite surprised how cheap they were.

Pitting or not though, use some RTV on both sides of the gasket where the water passages are.
