Default Another dodge repair/water leak???

Hey all, well back with another repair idea for a water leak. Always had a slow antifreeze leak but could never find out where it was leaking. Nothing serious never worried about it just topped it up once in a while. It's now worse and I can see where its leaking but only when truck is running.

It is coming out near what looks like the timing chain cover. It's not the water pump because thats attached to the timing chain cover. By looking at it, I see that i'm taking everything off the front including dropping the oil pan to fix the gasket which ever one it is.

Question, I don't see why i'm leaking antifreeze from the timing chain cover? I have no antifreeze in my oil when I check the dip stick.

And to seal the leak I want to try some sealing products because it is still a very small leak that I think I can patch. Want to save some time if I don't have to rip it all apart being the middle of winter. Any recommendations on some products for the job?

if i remember right i think i know what your talking about and its a hole thats there and will allow it to leak out in order to show you that your pump is going bad. its like a safety feature kinda thing, to give u a heads up. if you research it you might find the actual name of the pinhole im talkin about. just get ready cuz the pump is prob about to go.

It's called a weep hole. Does the leak go all the way down the side of the cover? I had this problem for well over a year and could never figure out what was leaking. I replaced everything. Come to find out something had gotten down in one of the holes for the t stat bolts and wouldn't let it torque down just right. I shaved the bolts down and haven't had a problem since.

The water pump bolts to the timing gear cover so guess what- there is water passages thru the timing cover and the gasket between it and the block can go bad and leak.
Not uncommon.

Yes this is where its leaking from. But its small enough i'm going to try and seal it up just temporary for now because it looks like a big job. Something for the summer. If i'm going to change this timing chain gasket i'll replace the chain and pump as well.

This weep hole your talking about, where is it located? On the pump itself?

the weep hole is on the nose cone of the pump.mine is on the underside.i doubt you will be able to seal it as it sits.damn gasket will be blown out.and yes it is a big job.when i did mine i replaced the pump, timing chain and all gaskets, thermostat and housing, front crank seal, upper and lower rad hoses.got some crud in the oil pan so i dropped it as well and replaced the rear main seal and oil pump.ordered all my parts from rock auto, boy what a savings.all in all doing it after work and one saturday it took me about 30 hours.worst part was a broken thermostat housing bolt, grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Thanks for the reply, i'll be trying to seal it temporarily as its my ownly set of wheels. I'll give it a try and maybe get it running while I wait for the parts. Starting to wish I would of changed the gasket while I did the plenum repair last summer but I didn't know where it was leaking. None of these rad sealing products are worth trying eh? Little bit of high temp gasket maker should seal the outside?

i have an old mechanic friend who is 80 and swears by barsleak for any small coolant leaks.back in the 60's,ford used to send a bottle out with everyone of their new 6 cylinder engines.there was a defect with the head gaskets and barsleak was the easy solution.barsleak was also supposed to lubricate the water pump bearing.im not a big fan of that stop leak stuff and i know a lot of other members here despise the stuff but in a pinch is it really that bad???????????

i put a bottle in mine without any ill effects and it got me home from a 300 km trip.

I'm not 80 yet (4 years to go) but I've used Barrs leak in the years past with no harmful results.
