Have someone get into truck while you are under the front end watching the steering linkage. Have them turn the wheel from center to the right and watch for any of the steering linkage. Does any of it move up and down. Then check with turn to left.

Reach under there with truck off and pull and push on tie rods, idler arm, make sure pittman arm is tight. Something there is most likely worn. There should not be any loose components under there.

There are lots of reasons the steering can be sloppy.... besides worn out track bar ball joint you could have loose steering shaft where the two ends meet in the middle or the pitman arm can be moving side to side from a worn gearbox (I bought that aftermarket steering bracket from ebay that helped me) as well as a heavy duty shaft... there is an adjustment on the top of the steering box and directions in the diy section on how to adjust it with an allen key...you have to be careful though if you tighten it too much it wrecks the steering box gears fast....

There should be a small gap there. So long as it isn't sloppy, that's fine.

I would start with the parts that normally wear...the parts built to wear. Tie rod ends and such.

What u joints did you change?

2wd or 2wd?

More information = easier to get answers.
