Need to jack the truck up far enough, that you can get the springs out. Jack on the frame, let the axle hang. (pull the shocks first....)

How much lift are the springs supposed to give you? If you are going more than three inches, there are a BUNCH of other parts that need to be addressed as well, otherwise, you are putting yourself, and anyone else on the road around you, in danger.

Disconnect the sway bar to allow the axle to drop down and the springs will just come right out

Based on the other post that you are installing a 5" lift, 3" and under does not need all this done but for 5" or more this is the way unless you use a coil spring comp.

If you do this it will be ez, if you don’t it will fight you all the way.

Put the front diff on jack stands
Remove the tires
Disconnect the sway bar
Disconnect the draglink from the pitman arm
Disconnect the track bar
Remove the shocks
Remove the front driveshaft from the diff
Jack up the frame on both sides evenly until the springs fall out

Edit: For safety reasons put a chain through the coil spring so it does not pop out and hurt someone

All I did was jack up the front axle (one side at a time) then took off the wheel and disconnected the sway bar end link,

Once that was done I took two ratchet straps and used them to keep the coil spring compressed.

Then unbolt the top shock bolt and compress the shock, now you can tilt the shock and spring so you can get the coil off.

Reinstall in the opposite order, it took me about 2 hours to do it the first time (i fought with the sway bay end link) but I also took my time and made sure I reinstalled the springs in the same position they came out of.

Good luck!

when replacing the coil springs on a 4wd model is there any rubber insulator that is supposed to be on the bottom? Also is there a certain way the coil should sit in there with the end of the spring or do you just plop it in there? Thanks.

Take a look in the service manual. Should be a good pic of it in there. Download links in the FAQ section.
