Default 96 Ram 5.9 no start after tuneup

Ok I tried the search function but I didn't see anything exactly like my problem. I did a tuneup plugs, cap rotor. Now the truck won't start and sounds like the spark is firing 180 out. I can hear it popping in the exhaust.I've ran the firing order over 20 times. I've tried rotating the wires on the cap one post in both directions. Unfortunatly thanks to the cap being behind the plenum and no room I wasn't able to replace the cap and transfer one wire at a time like I normally do. The truck had been sitting for awhile and the gas isn't the best but before I touched it the truck would run. The popping in the exhaust is what has me puzzled, it sounds like I have the firing order 180 out. But #1 is at the #1 post on the cap and the order is right......

It has to be either a problem with cap and rotor or your firing order is still out..not too much help we can offer since you already know that...
..I always remove the cap and then transfer wires one at a time . or draw up a diagram on how it should go in relationship to the screw posts on the cap...
There is a couple copies of the service manual here for download in the DIY section of this forum... I'd start there and check your firing order with that.

Just a thought... Did u put the rotor back on in the same direction it came off? I'm pretty sure there's two ways it'll fit on. Although I haven't tried, so I might be wrong.

The rotor only goes on one way. I DID check that tho.
How do you change the cap one wire at a time in that little bitty hole?? I did try I just couldn't do it.

Take the intake off first.

Firing order is 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2, distributor rotates clockwise, and number one is marked on the cap. (toward the front passenger side.) Re-verify your plug wires. That almost has to be the problem.

Are you getting a CEL code? If it was 180 off, I read in here that the cam position sensor will not allow the coil to fire. So I doubt its that far off. Not to insult your ability but could you have damaged the plug wires when you pulled them off the plugs?

You need to fix that. Your fuel sync is going to be 180* out.
