Default need a couple opinions

in my other post, i was talking about swapping a v10 into my truck, but most on here think it would to expensive and not worth it. So that leads to another idea, what about mildly building what i got now? I havent really looked yet because i thought it would be a good idea to get some opinions first. Now i know some are going to ask what my budget it, and honestly im not sure right now, a couple grand? I never looked into anything like this so im not sure how much parts are. Id be doing all the work myself so that would save alot. But i was thinking maybe just a cam and different heads, or modify my stock heads. What about lifters and rocker arms? Obviously with how my truck is set up id like more low end torque, so im curious as to what you guys that have played with these engines had in mind

Go with new heads. Don't bother spending any money on the stockers. They suck.

You are OBDI, so, that kinda limits the possibilities, and remaining computer friendly. Going for a nice RV cam won't upset it over much.... and would give you some better bottom end.

Gears would be a good investment too...... it would be a lot like adding power... as the engine wouldn't have to work quite so hard to get the truck rollin'. 4.56 would be good, 4.88 would be excellent. (unless you do more than about 30% highway driving....)

Hughes intake, or M1?

Headers, free flowing exhaust?

yea i already plan on doing gears, 4.10s or 4.56s, not sure yet. Ive heard aot of people do an RV cam for the low end torque as well. I planned on throwing headers on as well, and yea, being as i cant program the truck sucks, every truck i had i always programmed it. As for the intake, inever read up on either of those...guess ill look into that as well. where would you even look to get an rv cam, let alone everything else? Does alot of people go onto summit/jegs, or is there a site dedicated to these 360s

reason i feel like going into the engine is i just replaced the water pump because it was leaking, but its still leaking a very little from somewhere down the front of the block, i need to pressure test it, but its just aggrivating, so i figure if its not to expensive, just make a project out of it

Check timing cover gasket (water pump bolts go through it) or by pass tube coming out of pump.

i read in another post about the timing cover gasket, unfortunately i wasnt able to do the pump myself as i was busy and needed the truck the next day for a trip...so i have to look at that, and the bypass hose doesnt look like its leaking either

other thing it does, is when it first fully warms up, the guage goes to about 210, then drops to 190 and stays there the rest of time...is that normal with these engines?

Sounds like the temp sender, mine did the same thing until I replaced it.

weird thing is, when i first got the pump replaced, it didnt do it...my thinking was if the pump is still leaking, the coolants draining out of it, then when i start it, theres an air bubble that has to work its way out of it, which wouldnt be until tstat opens, but ill be replacing that to give it a try..thanks!

With the 35" tires, go at LEAST the 4.56 gears. That will be closest to the 'stock' relationship between engine RPM, and vehicle speed. To get a bit more oomph out of it, and take some more of the strain off the driveline (yes transmission, I am looking at YOU.) go with 4.88's.

Find the coolant leak. There are places that you just can't see though.....

For cams, and assorted other parts, both places you mentioned are good. Talking directly to comp cams, or someone equally as knowledgeable about them to make your choice would be a good plan. They could probably recommend something that wouldn't **** off your computer too bad.

Sounds like you still may have an air pocket in your cooling system. How's your heat?
