Default 1999 Ram Engine/Trans/PCM to 2000 Ram?

Hey All, the title of the thread says it all. I currently have a 2000 Ram 5.2L 4X4, with an impressive 235K on the odo. It is TIRED. I have the engine, trans and pcm from a 1999 Ram 5.9L 4X4 (all from the same donor truck) Will the 1999 5.9 set up be compatible with my 2000 Ram chassis and wiring?

Thanks for any help!

PS. I did use the search function and came up with a guy who wanted to do the reverse procedure in a durango. But don't know how it turned out. Thanks again!

Spooky

If you swap it all, it should go in without an issue, everything should hook right up, and bolt right in. I think you will have to use the 99 harness, as I believe some of the connections for the trans changed in 99/00. You will have to get the PCM flashed with the correct vin, otherwise, you will have constant ABS/Brake/SRS lights.

Would be easier to just bolt the 360 in place of the 318, and then get a pcm flash for the larger motor.

Crap!

The trans is the biggest part of this. Can anyone confim? I thought the transmissions compatible between 1999 and 2000.

As for the engine. I called the Mopar Performace tech line and the guy there said that as long as you are working within the same year model, and both vehicles did NOT have anti-theft systems, the VIN would not be an issue. Does this make sense?

In my case both vehicles do NOT have anti-theft systems, but they are different year models, being 1999 and 2000.

For the trans, all it is I think is the electronics. Change those over to the correct year, and it should work just fine.

The vin will be an issue regardless of anti-theft system.

+1... No need to swap anything else over (including the PCM) except the tranny internal electrics.

Ok, let me get this straight. I can use the 1999 trans in the 2000 truck if I use the 2000 electronics in the 1999 trans?

Is that right?

Thanks

You dont even NEED to get the pcm reflashed when going from a 318 to a 360....there's a guy on youtube who did it and is still driving it over 2 years later with no issues... apparently its within the 30% adjustment ratio the pcm can tune for in closed loop... see link below...

Yep. Tranny guts are the same. Just the electrical pieces inside that are different.
