Default looking for gas mileage tips

my 96 ram 5.2 V8 is currently getting me about 13mpg with a mix between city and highway driving. im going to do a tune up soon but i am wondering if there are any other ways to up my gas mileage. i use this truck mainly for commuting and light hauling work so i don't really need any power increases but they would be an added bonus.

12mpg city and 15mpg highway is considered good for these trucks. Best thing you can do is drive like an old person. Running the recommended tires to match your gears helps as well.

ive got the same truck in a 4x4.drive it like an old person is great advice, works for me.i also switched all my fluids to amsoil synthetic, seemed to help a little along with a k+n filter.also have always run stock size tires since i bought it new in 1997.i can get up to 800 km out of a tank during summer hwy driving.city and winter driving is a whole different story.

Then you can get electric fans, less restrictive exhaust, a SCT tune, only these things probably will never pay for themselves in gas...

My advice?

Give up on fuel economy and dump your money into power increases to have more fun.

Where do you get that money you say? From all the gas you're saving driving that clunker around for anything that doesn't require the truck.

That way when you take the truck out you can let that big guzzling big Beast out of the box.

But if you don't go that route, 13 mpg is actually pretty good. These trucks were designed for torque not mpg.

So Me bolt on like Cold Air Intakes and a SCT tuner can't hurt

keeping your truck fairly clean probably would not hurt. get rid of all the garbage you don't need. i don't think electric fans would help that much. driving style will be the only big thing that would make a difference.
