Default 46RE Transmission Overhaul

Hi there guys

I'm getting ready to do a complete tune up on the tranmission of my truck

I already got my Mopar ATF +4 Fluid, Got a Wix Transmission Filter and Gasket for the pan.
I'm guessing I should do a band adjustment on the Transmission with the Bands since I have the pan down.

My question is i'm wondering about any other things that I should service while the pan is dropped??

I've been reading about sensors and the Governor Solenoid. Wondering if this constitutes doing these items since the pan is dropped.
There are no codes on the computer at all. Fluid is Clean in the transmission, i'm just not taking any chances with this 46RE. I want it to last till over 200,000 KM minimum.
Transmission seems to shift just fine from the way I drive, it honestly gets babied since I got it 2 days ago. Have no intentions of slamming on the pedal unless I have to.
Only thing I have noticed is if i'm climbing a hill, 4th Gear engages after I let my foot off the pedal gently. I'm guessing that is normal though.

Any input is well appreciated
Truck has 156,000 KM on it.

My next thing to do is checking the plenum to see if it's been replaced.
It sounds like I have to remove the Air Filter Housing off the engine and then open the trottle plate in there, and use a Magnetic Pen to see if it sticks to the bottom. Does that sound proper??

Thanks again guys

If the trans hasn't had the bands adjusted, it sure won't hurt. Just follow the procedures.

Might wanna at least look at the governor pressure sensor/solenoid, and see if they are getting gummed up, clean 'em out.

To check the plenum, get a TB gasket, and actually take it off. Have a look, if you see oil pooling toward the back, time to yank the intake.

If this truck has the original rubber molded re-useable pan gasket, do not change it..It is far superior to aftermarket replacements and will not leak...

K, thanks guys
I'm debating about changing out the Governor Pressure Solenoid because computer threw me a P1763 Code today and I did a scan, had it cleared.
I tried to make the code re-appear and it's not happening.
Just shaking my head right now

if everythings working right that SHOULD happen when the screen on the soleniod starts to plug up...you can just clean them off with carb cleaner or contact cleaner and your good to go.... hell there is even a DIY on how to actually dissassemble them and clean and test them if you want...(in the DIY section)

OK
I'll check that section out
Appreciate all the info your giving me

I was honestly scared that this would happen when I was buying this truck
Read so much information on these 46RE Transmissions being a Headache
Reminds me of the 4l60E Tranmission on the 95 and newer chevy
Watched my Dad burn through 8 of those transmissions before he got rid of the truck.
Now his 4L65E on his 04 Sierra is starting to get cooked to

Don't understand why these companies can't make a decent transmission anymore. Seem they just throw in the bare minumum.

This truck will be getting a performance transmission if I'm replacing it
I will not be messing around with this.
Working the rigs has it's advantages to make a good buck.

Well....I was expecting to see something about a 46RE overhaul....not routine maintenance. But upgrading solenoid would be worth the money.

Put a drain plug in the pan as well while you are at it.....before zman tells you! (beat him to it!)

Use a torque wrench to adjust bands and to reinstall the pan. Do not overtighten!

Tell me about it man
I was only going to usual overhaul then this truck had to throw the P1763 Code at me today.

I started a seperate thread to describe the symptoms prior to this code coming up. Trying to see what everyone's opinion is.

I think what he means is an overhaul is a full rebuild
