You can read my thread about the same thing here

https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...any-ideas.html

I basically paid to have the cam/crank sensors changed and was on my way for a PCM and then changed the battery with a new one, all was fine.
That's interesting even though our problems weren't exactly the same as mine always starts right back up after a very short amount of time.

I did take the truck by an auto parts store and have them check the battery with their wiz bang machine that gives a printout after about the second time this happened. It checked fine and appeared to have been installed 02/11. I guess there's always a chance it could still be the culprit as it's an off brand I've never seen before.

Thanks for the input,
Sonny

Try the key trick and see if there are any stored codes.

Are you saying that the "key trick" will uncover codes that a code scanner won't?

I plugged in a scanner and there were no codes hence the title: "2000 5.9 shuts off, no codes".

Even sopme code scanners will have a option to check "active" codes and another f ro "stored" codes.

I'm with zman...couldn't hurt to check. After all.....something is not right.

Mine always started again right after as well, then one time it didnt.

I would try just borrowing a battery from someone, my battery tested fine also.

Oh, I didn't pick up on that part from the link you posted.

Mine has been getting more frequent with it's shutting off episodes so, dang, might as well throw some more money at it and install a new battery.

The battery that's in it now is a "Econo Power" that was probably installed just to get the truck sold.

You can always just borrow one from some other vehicle instead of wasting $80 on a new battery, or switch them with a friend.

Angry

Tried a good battery. Still shuts off in the same manner. Guess it's PCM time.
