Default Back fire throug intake, Timing off?

So i got everything back together (New Heads and Cam). and I went to crank it, but all i got is a lot of back fire through the intake, you can see a flame shoot out through the TB! Im thinking that its the CPS that got thrown off when i installed the Cam? I went ahead and put the Harmonic balancer's mark to TDC with the timing chain cover and took of the distributor cap off. Sure enough it was 180 out. so i pulled out the whole distributor out and turned it 180 back around and lined up the house with the rotor. went to crank it and it still back fired! so i took the Cap off again with the Harmonic balancer set to TDC again and the rotor was facing 180 out again!??? so now im lost and kinda spaced out on what to do next?
Note: i know its not the timing chain because i tripled checked and made sure both dots were aligned.

The crank will pass TDC twice for each revolution of the distributor. Turn the crank to 0 again, but, leave the number plug out, so you can feel when it's blowing air out. (compression stroke) Then see where your rotor is pointing. Make sure you have the wires on correctly...... clockwise rotation.

Yes, only way to be absolutely sure is what HeyYou said. Also, make sure you ARE reading the crank/cam gears correctly for the dots.

according to the document in the second link the truck the fuel sync is set to spray when the valve is fully open... This goes against what I was told about it being set to spray on the backside of a hot valve?

So i have no idea why i didnt check the distributor's cap first. but when i did i found out that its worn out and rusted to hell from the inside. So i bought a brand new Distributor, rotor, and cap and she fired right up!!! thanks guys for all of the hints but not all of the bugs are fixed yet....

It aint sucking air through the intake! very very very little. i can barely feel the suction. and Second, 3 of the primary pipes on the headers are getting cherry red hot within seconds of running!????
