Default 3" body lift questions

Well i have recently been running ideas for my truck and think i might sometime in the next couple months put a 3" body lift on. I have a 99 dodge ram sport 1500 and it has TGC 3" front spacers and 1 1/2" rear blocks and was wondering if it would look dumb with stock tires? How hard is a body lift to install and what are reasons not to do a body lift?

The whole idea behind a body lift is, it's a cheap way to get clearance for larger tires. With a total of six inches of lift, the stock tires are gonna look TINY. WAY out of proportion.

Why would you want to put a body lift in there, if you aren't going to upsize your tires? 6" of lift is enough room for 35's.

I agree it would look silly with that much lift and small tires... body lifts have thier advantages... for one thing the center of gravity is lower since the heavy stuff like the frame and drivetrain remain lower and closer to the road... also the ride quality isnt compromised. the down side is moving the bumpers and such so it doesnt look bad...

The other downside is one of the upsides. The frame is closer to the ground. Good for center of gravity, bad for clearance. Just a thought.

Well instead of starting a new topic im going to just ask on here. When going to a 33 inch tire would i need to change gears. I heard people say yeah some people say no.

I would say that a 33" tire is borderline for 3.55:1 gears. 35" on maybe a 3.92 but a 4.10 or 4.56 will be your best option.

So it would be okay to run 33's on stock gears?

true.... but axles and driveshafts are still the limiting factor in almost all cases so its really a moot point...

For 33 I had 4:10 real nice off line, less stress on tranny but now I got 35 and 4:56.
Also I wouldn't run stock tires with 6 inch of lift. Like getting a bigger fridge for only one case
