Default fuel gauge stopped at 3/4 tank

well little confused here, i got gas and then parked on level ground couple hours later went out got in truck all seemed normal now after days of driving the gauge is not dropping . its now been two months and gauge is till at 3/4 tank has not moved ive dealt with the problem due to snow and cold but today its going to be nice and i would like to attempt to fix.

anyone have a suggestion on what might be my problem here?
I think perhaps the ground on top of tank ... but im not sure and i do not want to tear something apart i cant see and do more damage ..

ive read a few things online and on forums and i dont seem to be getting a straight answer .

ANY HELP WOULD BE AWSOME ...... THANKS .

I agree with HeyYou, You could try beating on the bottom of the gas tank a few times and see if that makes the gauge move. If it does its a sending unit problem.

Sending unit windings, found on the side of the fuel pump

Pix of the float

thanks for the help . not the job i wanna tangle with in damn snow.. but another thing a mechanic mentioned that the gauge its self might be messed up because once you removed power it should drop off . so i removed all gauges and took out the fuel one ... lowered it to empty and hooked all back up and gauge went up again. so im going to say gauge is fine, but didnt go to exactly where it was before so this basically proof that the float is stuck ??

i mean it climbed back to almost or around the 3/4 tank again ...

Never fun in the snow. I have dropped my tank so many times it's nut's. I have it down to a T and can do it in about 1.5hrs, drop it, clean it, reinstall it. If you need a Diy I can provide you with one, just send me a pm.

You could check the plug at the pump.

I am not certain, but I don't think so. Any diesels I have seen have a return fuel line also. Not sure on Rams though.

Stuck float or bad sending unit.
