I wasnt even aware hypertech made tuners for anything older than OBD11? I though custom or mopar performance was pretty much the 95 and olders only option...hell I've got a 96 and my options are limited compared to a 97...

Not tuners, generally, they are 'piggy back' modules, that go between the harness, and PCM. OBDI PCM's are not flash programmable like the OBDII guys.

And are the "chips" really as worthless as everyone says? I have never looked into them...

well obd 1 and 2 are different animals.... I dont know enough to say for certian but obd 1 may not be smart enough to relearn to overcome all the chips "adjustments" in 200 miles

I know in the GM world the eprom chips inside the computer were replaceable...

Back in the day it was much cheaper to use memories which required a burner. The OBD1 trucks all have this type of memory. Not only this but it seems to be top secret info among those who know what the computer is doing with the values stored in this memory and so even if you did have memory burning capability (which is relatively easy to come by) you'd still have to figure out what values to enter. I'm guessing that it's pretty easy to really screw things up with that kind of power when you make a mistake and so it's an area not to be treaded haphazardly.

I have a box full of eprom chips which appear to be the exact ones found in many of them old vehicles... the older machines I serviced used them for firmware revisions....
You would have thought this would be something many would have tried to unlock the secrets to by now....
