Default transmission rebuild?

i have been calling around on rebuilding my 47re and i ran into a builder that said not to buy any alto red egal clutch packs as they are all junk. is this true? does anyone have any experience with these clutches?

I would run away from that shop......

Do a search and find MonteC's transmission thread. Good info there.

Are you going to do this yourself or have a shop do it?

Keep in mind, it doesn't make a huge difference as to what kinda rebuild kit you use. I've heard of a few dodges make it to 200k on a factory tranny. make sure you install a really good alternate tranny line cooler (additional 60 bucks). Those lines need to be at a good 175F or lower, otherwise every 10 or so degrees the mileage you could achieve on the tranny starts to nose-dive.

I respectfully disagree....rebuild compnents are important. That's why the Viper is about $2500! I installed the red alto clutches and like them. Also upgraded governor solenoid as well. And a better TC will make it last longer and shift better.

Here is some info that will be helpful:

I also added a Hayden cooler and trans temp gauge and added extra clutches in the front drum.

I had not done a tranny in over 30 years, and it was ford c4 and c6 and a couple of chevys. This is my first Dodge tranny. I printed the trans section from the service manual in the FAQ/DIY section and put in plastic sheet protectors to keep on the bench while rebuilding.

i just bought the truck a few weeks ago, got it for 5500 with 310K miles on it. factory everything and no trans repair/mods done to it. i dont have a temp gauge in it but it does have a dedicated trans cooler radiator on it from the factory.

thanks for the links im looking at them now

Go with the alto red eagle clutches.

The billet pieces are better..... makes for a nice upgrade.
