It's a definite that you need the 2500 pads if you put the 2500 calipers on a 1500? I plan on doing this upgrade when it's time for front brakes. Also, for a 1996 1500, I buy calipers for the same year 2500?

Yes, use the 2500 pads as well. My 96 3/4 ton has the single piston 'light duty' calipers on it for some reason, even though it IS the 8800 GVW flavor....
