Have you noticed a decrease in gas milage? Any abnormal roughness at idle? Anything else that might be out of the ordinary?

If the lights on, you WANT to know what it is whining about. It just might be urgent.... also, with the light on, truck always runs in open loop, (depending on code...) so, fuel economy will suffer as well. (like you would notice.....) Most parts stores can read codes......

The yellow engine light is for emissions and ignition problems. The red engine light is for serious engine problems-oil and coolant primarily. If you have the red engine light, and all fluids are good, then there could be a bad sensor or a failing component. If I had my engine light come on, I would check oil and coolant. If they were ok, I'd check wires to the CTS and oil pressure sending unit. If they are ok, then I'd move on and replace them-they're pretty cheap. If the light was still on, I would get the oil pressure tested-or you can buy a tester. That's where I'd start, but that's just me.

Red engine lite? Only red light I have dealing with the engine is the low oil pressure light. (of which, there seem to be two.....) The yellow CEL is for just about any codes the PCM sets. Some trans codes won't turn on the lite... but ANY engine codes will.

PCM couldn't care less about fluid levels. It doesn't pay any attention to them. Newer trucks may have indicator lites for various low fluids.... (I know the earlier trucks have a low washer fluid indicator... but, thats the only one my truck has.)
