Default Anyone with a 2001 upgrade to SS braided brake lines?

I am thinking that my brake lines are suspect. The truck is over 10 years old, and even though there are only 56K miles on her, the lines are still old.

I think they are suspect because 2 years ago when I was upgrading my brakes, I bled my brakes and the fluid was brown. So, i did a brake fluid "flush" and got new fluid in there until the flid color was the same as when I put it in.

Well, after that bleeding a week later, I redid my shoes and hardware. Then a few months later, I did my front rotors. When i bled the brakes after that the fluid was back to brown in a matter of months and less than 1K miles.

I am thinking that the lines are rotting from the inside and causing the color.

NOW, to the SS lines. I know that 2001 has some weird stuff in there with brake lines and sensors. I am just not completely sure that the SS lines will match up with what I have.

BTW, does anyone know if a 2001 1500 off road edition has a rear height sensor? That is a reason why I think the SS lines will not work, ebcause no kits have "rear height sensor" as an option. But parts in rockauto do.

i just went to rockauto to look for what your asking and didn't see what your describing. what did you use to look up for this. only thing a rear height sensor would be for is air bags to level load. can you link it in if possible.

I got mine through http://www.russellperformance.com. I have been more then happy with them. Also my truck has a 6 inch lift with 35's so I needed the peace of mind that it would stop

The rear height sensor is basically a variable proportioning valve, the lower the rear of the truck sits, the more pressure it allows to the rear brakes. Should be able to look up under there, and see if there is one.

+1.... Mine has one. Had to replace it. It was like $700 or some ridiculous price from the dealer. Got one from Minton Motors for $25. LOL

rockauto does not have the stainless steel ones. But they have 41 different parts. Some say "for use with Rear Wheel ABS" and some say "Two wheel ABS" and I am not sure if they are the same thing. They probably are...

I am also thinking that 2500s and up have the rear height sensor.

I don't think the older models have the height sensor.I'm sure I'm most likely wrong, but, I hope HeyYou checks his. Then we'll know either way.

From what I can find, the valve was present on 97 and up 2500's WITHOUT 4WAL..... (only the 8800 lb gvw guys.) and at some point, there was a TSB to remove it, as it tended to cause accelerated front brake wear........

Bizarre.....

ok, so I don;t have a height sensor. This makes it a lot easier. But the only think that I don't see on any site that has the Russels brake lines, are the choices for:
4x4 RWAL

I think they are different for 4 wheel ABS and RWD. I say that because Rockauto has different hoses for just those options from identical manufacturers.

I would like to save money by going to rockauto, but there is peace of mind when bringing the part to the store to compare with what they have in stock.

We went thru this on another members truck as well.... I really don't recall the resolution. Maybe go to the parts store, have them pull a couple lines for you to inspect, and see what the differences are.......
