Default slightly rough idle

I recently replaced dist. cap and cables and got rid of a CEL which turned out to be p0302 misfire on #2. but since then I have a slight rough idle problem and I am thinking of cleaning the EGR valve but I can not easily find the valve. Any suggestions please

What year is it? You might want to add that info to your sig AND profile. Not all years even have an EGR valve. You might want to add the rest of the info too. Like if it's a 4x4 or not. This info will help you and us in the event you ask questions in the future.

If your truck is 96 or newer, you won't find the EGR valve. (there isn't one...) If you are getting a rough idle after doing cap/rotor/wires etc, check plug wire routing.

Since you only had the issue after putting new parts on, I think you should throw out the new ones and replace them with the old crusty parts.

Yeah, make sure the wires are routed in accordance to the TSB. The rotor should have been replaced along with the cap. How old are the plugs? Are they gapped correctly?

Default slight rough idle

Can anyone tell me what is the correct plug wire routing. I made sure that the wires are not criss crossing. I also placed them in the wire retainer clip but after a couple of days I got the same check engine light for #4 misfire. I rearranged the wires in the wire retaining clip and the check engine light went away for another few days but came back on again.
so what is the proper way to route the wires, is there a particular wire arrangement in the retainer. thanks guys

There is a tsb in the faq section for plug wire routing.

Fixed your plenum yet? What does the plug in #4 look like?

I have not touched the plenum yet. I keep thinking that wire routing is my problem only because the problem goes away everytime I touch the wires. The plug seems to be OK. I switched #2 with #4 plug and I still got the same failure mode. I will look again but I could not find wire routing for my 6 cylinder 3.9 engine. I did see wiring for 8 cylider 5.9 engines. I am going to try to put #'s 2 and 6 on one side of the retainer with one space in between them and #4 on the opposite side of the retainer and see if that works.thanks very much Hayyou
