Default ABS Code 82 & 83 after new module.

Truck went in today for an OPI (out of province inspection) Its a Canadian thing.....

A year ago I changed out the abs control module with one from the wreckers. Today I find out it was bad as the shop couldn't pull codes from it. (No communication)
I swallowed hard for a new one at a cost of 725.00. It can now communicate and is giving me these codes.

Code 83: Tire revolution per mile out of range.

Code 82: Number of tone ring teeth out of range.

I now have to take it to the dealership as apparently they are the only ones with the ABS equipment to clear the codes.

Now my question is....... I think this is only a matter of entering information into the ABS module? Am I correct in this? Tire size, gear size, ect. The rear sensor was replaced last year as well and my speedometer works fine.

I hate dealerships, hate dealing with them and just know I'm gonna get a run around. I dont want to be caught taking a knife to a gun fight.

Sounds like the new module doesn't have a clue about your truck..... I think you are correct in your assumption that it needs to be told various things. 4 wheel ABS I take it? Does the ABS have to work to pass inspection?? After all, not every vehicle has it..... in fact, I think it was an option on your truck.

Its 4 wheel abs. I dont think the actual abs has to pass. There is a section in the inspection checklist that says onboard diagnostic systems and in said section its all about the lamp.... ABS code present? ABS lamp fails to to illuminate? ABS lamp remains illuminated?

Well maybe it does have to pass after all,

The mechanic just about rejected the steering box, lol. I told him it was a new rebuilt installed last year and they are all like that. I just did the quick adjustment a couple days ago and it felt fairly tight to me haha.

Its a nasty, extensive checklist. I have to change a broken exhaust manifold bolt and deal with this ABS issue and it will pass though.

I replaced damn near the entire front end, both hub bearings, u-joints, both upper and lower tie ball joints, pitman arm, tie rod ends and something else(cant remember) It all passed the alignment specs!

Just saying the back alley alignment can actually work lol.

Needs to go to dealer, sorry to say. Just out of curiosity, did you have the negative battery cable disconnected while you replaced it?
You might want to also try this for the hell of it. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...code-list.html

Yes disconnected negative power. At 725.00 you bet your *** I wasnt gonna take a chance and fry it, lol. Thanks for the link. I have a OBD code reader but it doesnt do squat for the ABS system.

Try the key trick for the hell of it. Won't hurt anything, and I'm curious.

Sorry zman, never got the chance....

Took it in to the dealership, explained the situation. A couple hours later they called to say that they cleared the code but they came back. They asked if they had permission to look into it a little more..............

I had to explain to them what it was they had to do!!! Had I said sure go ahead I bet they'd have tried to tell me the control module was bad and try and sell me another god damn module. As it was they charged 150.00......

I hate dealerships......
