Valve spring retainers must have just been touching the tops of the seals, a number of them are damaged, more than what you see on the pick up screen.
But were you having oil pressure problems like me? Or do you even know since it was your drag truck.

Because it's a drag truck I really watch my oil pressure, I ditched the stock gauge long ago and I was not having any oil pressure problems. I was surprised, but it was mostly large parts and allowed the oil to still be drawn up, I suspect a screen could get fully plugged up with sludge easier.

Personally I think all oil pans should have an access plate on the bottom of the pan so you can pull it off and clean the pick up screen.

After I work on the top end, I always pull the oil pan plug and rinse the engine out by pouring several quarts of oil into the lifter valley, on the rocker arms etc. and let it drain through the motor.

Nobody wants to tell you this, but I will: you blew your motor.

Oil pump and screen are easy. I did mine in the driveway in under two hours. (of course, that was the THIRD time I was in there......

Oh I don't doubt it's easy compared to the plenum fix I just did. These engines are even more simple than I thought, and I thougt they were pretty basic.

Why so many trips to the oil pan?

First time was for a freeze plug. Next two times were for parts of a rag..... I didn't get it all the first time..... No, I didn't put it in there.... some other butthead did. (while my truck was at the shop when I was doing the plenum. The guy that was renting the place at that point and I had a... erm..... disagreement about some repairs I paid him to do, which destroyed the engine in my malibu less than 50 miles after I picked it up....... Yeah, I wasn't exactly a happy camper.

Wow that sucks. I try to do all of my own work, or at least all that I can. But if me and my dad can't get it done we only take it the place where my dad literally knows them all.

You get connections after you roof everybodies house for the past 20 years.

After I get this oil problem sorted out, where should I go next with my truck? Anybody have any ideas
