Default Oil Pumps and My Plenum Mishaps

Just did my plenum fix, truck runs great now. Extremely smooth. I got the mopar double roller timing chain also while I had the engine torn down.

Anyway, I didnt seat the gaskets properly so they blew as soon as the thermostat opened, and got a lot of coolant into my oil. So this obviously resulted oil like water, and extremely ugly to boot.

Long story short, will this extremely thin coolant/oil ruin my oil pump. The gauge goes up, then drops to zero, then goes up, then stays at 0.

I changed the oil tree times to flush it out but there's still a little. Some "Honey" from Advance thickened it up an got rid of my slight lifter clicking that came and went. I have a oil sending unit sensor on the way becaus win sure it's dead, but how worried should I be about the pump? And how easy is it to install a newer, better one?

Also, what's a double roller timing chain sound like? Can you hear? Because I can get something at low speeds that is obviously RPM related, and I'm assuming it's the chain.

i don't think the coolant in the oil will hurt the water pump nor the sending unit, although it may create some sludgy **** that might take awhile to remove. if anything gets hurt - it'll be a bearing....

i would use a treatment of Gunk brand engine flush and follow the directions EXACTLY, do not get creative. its cheap at walmart, 3-4-5 bucks. see if that straightens out the oil pressure reading. my first guess is that its a false reading of zero. if that doesn't help, try removing the oil pressure sending unit and either clean or replace.

I'm definetly replacing the sending unit.

It does it the most when going up a hill, does that provide any clues?

I'm starting to think I just partially clogged the screen in the pan by accidentally knowing crap into the lifter valley. I tried to shop vac it all out but who knows

I would like to suggest a mech oil psi gauge instead of replacing the cheap not true reading elec sender, not much more money and not that much harder to install.

Have heard of these. Only hesitation is how to go about a permanent install?

if you suspect there crap stuck to the pickup screen and it won't turn loose and flush out, then consider dropping the pan and cleaning it. if you want to replace the oil pump while you're there, look at the melling high volume.

and while you're there, if your rear main oil seal leaks (and constantly drips at back of the oil pan) you might as well replace the rear main.

alternative - if you're lazy like me, buy 2 gallons of kerosene. drain the oil and put the plug back in. pour in kero. DO NOT START THE ENGINE. drain into a clean pan and inspect. poke around the drain hole and see if any gasket pieces are lingering around that you can pick out. strain the kero and repeat a few times. see if any debris will wash out. replace filter and oil.

oil pump and rear main.

The coolant will kill your main bearings and if you have crap on your pick up screen, nothing is going to remove it.

Lot's of recent problems with the Melling HV pumps, guys have been blowing oil filters apart. THey are coming out of the factory with the wrong internals. I just took a new one of my 408 (motor is still on the stand) and put on a standard volumn pump...But there isn't any reason reason why you would ever need a HV oil pump anyway.

Here's what the pick up screen on my 360 looked like...I had a couple valve seals come apart. Nothing in the world would clean that off but a putty knife. Engine still ran great, had my best 1/4 mile time with this "free mod."

When you say your engine ran great, was it before or after you cleaned the screen.

I have got all the coolant out of the system

It ran great with the **** on the screen, I don't even know how long it was on there. This is the 360 in my Dakota Drag truck. It sees 6800 rpm every pass on a stock bottom end...Tough little motors and will take a of of abuse.

Valve spring retainers must have just been touching the tops of the seals, a number of them are damaged, more than what you see on the pick up screen.
