Default So I got a new O2 sensor

I Got a new denso O2 sensor, or was it NTK? Either way it wasn't Bosch. To compliment my plenum fix and timing chain upgrade/repair/thingy.

The old one looked as follows

Size: 95.6 KB

So did oil kill it? Or what did? Because it definetly looks shot.

Do I need to reset the PCM for it too pick up the new sensor? Because I haven't gotten any better mileage at all. I wasnt expecting 20+ or anything, but maybe at least 12. Perhaps my foot is just to heavy right now.

And I'm gonna replace my spark plugs soon. Should I get the Autolites or the Champions? Ive always used Champions and they run great but once they foul up they are done. They're so cheap you can replace them twice a year tho.

And what's the best way to get rid of the heat shields? All I here are bad things about them.

Oh yeah I also read somewhere about an app that somehow reads the PCM or fuel settings or some crazy thing like that, is there one for the iPhone?

Need to reset the PCM, and let it re-learn the new sensor.

App is called Torque. (not sure if you can get it for your phone, but, should be able to.) Need a bluetooth transmitter on the ALDL port though, they have them on Ebay for cheap.

Just for reference, next time you change, or clean any sensors(or do any electrical work for that matter). Disconnect the negative battery cable first no matter what. So yes, remove it to reset the PCM. And with an o2 that looks like that, the cat can't be in very good condition either.

actually it doesnt matter... within the next 200 miles the pcm will have fully adjusted using the new 02 sensor readings...since the pcm is constantly using sensor readings to adjust and monitor current readings...
I dont know if thier is an app for iphone since its not open source...

Regular joe's write iPhone apps all the time.. there are guidelines presented for doing so.. difference is, apple has to approve anything before they are published to other regular joe's..

That said, last I heard, torque was still awaiting apple approval, meaning: its not yet available..

There are a score.of things that can jack up an o2 sensor.. some of the least expected that will do the most damage to one with a quickness is antifreeze. That one looks oil fouled to me, but its hard to tell without holding it and getting a really good look..

As far as re-setting the 'puter, yeah- it will learn without re-setting, but it takes a while.. why not just pull the terminal and start fresh? It will do the same thing as not, but faster.. plus, messing around with connected sensors can be dangerous to sensitive connections that read tiny deviations in voltage and/or resistance.. its better to be safe and pull the terminal in my humble opinion.

not really... Iphone is taking its place in history with the blackberry...If I were to guess I'd say for every one iPhone there are like 7 androids sold. next year there will likely be something else..
