if it's the bands, does that normally entale a rebuild? I've already been considering a shift kit cuz everything i've read about these trans is that the only way to make them last is an HD shift kit. But then i've also been reading that the 4.7 has the more favorable trans (not sure which model trans) which makes me wonder bout just swapping to one of those trans but haven't really seen anything on people doing that. Is that a possible solution?

The 4.7 has a different bellhousing bolt pattern, so, the trans from those won't bolt up. Not to mention it is an electronically controlled trans.... and your PCM wouldn't have a clue... You would need to do some serious mods to make it work. You would spend less getting a megaviper....
There ARE 'repair' bands... that you don't have to tear the trans apart to get in.... but, if your bands are shot, most likely, the clutches aren't far behind.

so my trans isn't electronically controlled? If it's a 46re, i assumed the e stood for electronic. but i dropped the pan tody, didn't find anthing loose, wasn't really sure what to be looking for anyways but did find what i would believe to be a signifigant amount of shavings. No chunks tho. now my dilemma is, have the trans rebuilt or by a used one and install HD kit and slap it in. thought?
