Default Good CB Radios?

I'm lookin to get a cb radio for the ol' dodge off ebay but I don't know too much about them. I heard about cobras and midland before and my grandfather had one in his truck.

What all should I look for when buying a cb? There's some cheap ones on eBay, but i want good quality and is pa compatible. Also, could i use one of those magnetic antennas from walmart or should i get a firestix II and what length? Any help?

Here's the choices:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/250985769435...84.m1438.l2649

http://www.ebay.com/itm/390395734261...84.m1438.l2649

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Midland-40...Tuner/10603642

Antenna choices:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Cobra-36-3...ndingMethod=rr

http://www.ebay.com/itm/400210348446...84.m1438.l2649

http://www.ebay.com/itm/180655260810...84.m1438.l2649

(Where could i get the mounts separate for the firestiks?)

the cobra 29ltd is a great radio. the only negative to it is it doesnt have the 10 weather channels, but it does have PA compatability. i had one for about 5 years until i sold it and i loved it. pair that with a good firestik 4-5ft whip and you can reach quite a distance. i got 15 miles + under good conditions. i ran co-phase (dual antennas) for a while but i didnt like the reception with 2 antennas (the power is more concentrated with only 1 antenna) so it hooked it up only to the whip on the drivers side and just left the one on the passenger side just to keep the look even.

midland and uniden make ok radios too.

Uniden Bearcat 880, firestick dodge truck fender mount, and a wilson trucker 2000.....

The 880 is a small compact radio with the big radio features.. also it looks like something modern not something left over from the 70's.. i have the above setup in my Durango and it works great i also can get 10-15 miles out on a good day...

here are a few pics!

If you check the Uniden website, they just came out with new CBs a few months ago...I only buy Uniden police scanners now mainly because of their features and good memory size.

the best cb i've seen is the cheapo cobra at walmart. a buddy got one and it puts our 29's to shame.

i've got the cobra 29 NX/WX where the WX is the weather. i like having that.

I don't believe there are any CB's with built in police scanners...

I've got this one-

I've got the above for my truck.....it's still sitting in the box in the backseat as I've yet to find a suitable place to stash it (it's huge).

The uniden posted above is a pretty sweet radio from what I hear. Wish I had gone with that one.

It really is... i love it! and it was not too expensive either.. IIRC it was around $110 plus shipping.

The coolest thing that i like is that it is setup to be wireless mic compatible. that's pretty cool that there is one less wire to worry about, then again half the fun of CBing is trying to catch the mic going down there highway at 70 MPH... HAHA

One thing that is true with the CB hobby to remember is that you get what you pay for. This is the most important in the antenna area... i have seen $30 dollar radios smoke $200 radios all because one had a better antenna!

Hi,

Are there any good RF mics that are compatible? Have you tried any? The thing I'd worry about is self interference when you get some good transmit power out. In other words will the mic kill itself by keying up a high field strength. Seems like a nice enhancement though if it works well.
