I have seen 30k change intervals listed for these trucks. Fluid, filter and band adjustment.

You should have a trans cooler since your truck is an auto.
The factory cooler is small though, so most will install a larger capacity aftermarket cooler and bypass the stocker all together along with the cooler check valves.

every 15K-30K. and +1 to install the biggest cooler you can find and remove the check valve to prevent cooler line blockage with sludge. i also have a remote filter in the area of the check valve that i change every year. it costs almost nothing to change it and you loose very little fluid. it can't hurt.

Check valve delete is in the FAQ/DIY section, as is a free download of the FSM(which has recommended fluid change intervals for more than just the tranny). And a lot of other info btw is in the FAQ/DIY section. It's worth looking. And bigger coolers can be had at places like Jegs, summit, ebay, amazon. You are on the internet right?

Just doing the filter, and the fluid that comes out with it, is gonna be six quarts or more. The whole trans holds somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 to 18... (don't recall exact number.) Without disassembling the trans, no way to get all the fluid out. (at least, not without damaging the trans.....) Grab six and the filter kit, and a drain plug if you are feeling ambitious... you will be golden.
