Default 99 Ram 1500 A/c stuck, leaky heater core

So I'm pretty new to this and I've looked and looked and am not sure if the problems are related. I have owned my ram for a few months in which my a/c has never come out even cool. I tried to recharge it and got nowhere with that.
Next, my window has always fogged up from my defrost and about a week ago I started having steam come out of my heater vents which I quickly diagnosed as my heater core springing a leak. I guess my question is, is there a way that my leaky heater core could be causing the problem with my a/c? I cannot get anything to work with that. I know I'm going to have to replace my heater core so I wanted to check before tearing in the dash. Thank you!

Check that the blend door hasn't broken loose from the axle. Yours should be cable operated? I think.....

Doing the heater core is not a minor undertaking.... make sure you set aside plenty of time for this exercise.

Patience is the key with doing the heater core. If you hurry simple things become complex. Don't ask how I know this.

I already know that its gonna be a pain and a fairly long process. I have read everything I can about replacing the core and I'm not too worried about it. But before I crack into the dash, I would like to figure out what the deal with my a/c is. Does this really sound like a blend door problem? I guess its always about the same temp coming out the vents and the a/c system has pressure seeing as it wont take a charge.

The ac won't take a charge because the compressor is not running. Plan on putting a new evap core in also while you do the heater core. The pressure you see on the gauge for the 134a is just can pressure most likely. Does the compressor run at all anytime?

The compressor runs fine and I have airflow, it just never really changes temp. I'm gonna order in a new core and see about a new evap. I am also going to order in a heatertreater today as well. Hopefully soon I'll have enough time to get everything swapped.

In that case I think it's just the blend door(as has been previously stated), and btw all you said about the Ac was "I tried to recharge it and got nowhere with that". So more detailed info would help next time.

haha alright! I've had a lot of info going through my brain! But I finally decided to order everything and hopefully by next weekend I'll have my baby back runnin. I am gonna drive my car till I have it fixed due to the fact that anti-freeze has started leaking on my floorboard.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but ive recently decided to change out my heater core (2001 dodge ram 1500 club cab 2WD) because it smelled like maple syrup and there was a liquid on the passenger floor.

What I need to know is, if i take the big black box off, i will have to recharge the AC... Some forums i read says i have to evacuate the system and all that mess, but others don't even mention it.. I'm confused on if i need to evacuate the system or just put the freon in after i connect everything back together, or not.. help?
