97 Ram 4x4 converstion
hey, i want to convert my truck into a 4x4, i heard that you could strip an old 4x4 chassis tranny and xfer case, and move my current trucks body onto that.
i have a 97 dodge ram club cab w/ short bed
would that work?
also if it does, what is the estimated cost.

ditto.... way cheaper and much less headache.... this is why this is almost never done...
also what im thinking, (im 17, and make about 4-600 a month) saving up money and then selling my current truck and upgrading to a 4x4 00 cummins 24v, but im to attached to my truck, i bought my self n everything, main reason i want to do a conversion
I wanted to do the same thing to mine shortly after I got it (even had a truck I could have pulled part's from). But as the other's have mentioned it's going to be very expensive and a headache to boot. If you really want/need 4x4, just save up and buy a 4x4 truck...
And think about how bad you want Diesel too, beside's the price of diesel they are expensive to fix and they really need to be "worked" from time to time; hauling load's, etc.... Or so I hear anyway....

It's gonna have to be a '96 or '97 if you want a direct emissions compliant swap.
I would convert a truck to 4x4 in a heartbeat. But if I did it wouldn't be stock. It would involve custom fabrication work, sweet parts, etc. If you are looking to build a badass custom wheeler then it wont really affect the cost in the end, depending on how you did it. If you want your truck to look and perform like any other 4x4 ram, it ain't worth it.
