yes that's the one, is this a sign of a clog cat? I just had another look at the plenum and it's not all black like in the link, it's a bit dirty but you see the metal and I can pick up a bit of oil with a small piece of rag at the end of a piece of wire.

Is it supposed to be without a trace of oil or a bit is ok?

wow lots of miles and still running i have 176,000 makes me feel good i have alot more miles coming

A slight amount of oily residue could be form PCV. Some are worse than others. It is highly likely that the plneum gasket is blown and the PCV, unless changed routinely, is possiblby bad. Got PCV form dealer - not too expensive. You van get plenum plate - 1/4" aluminum, from e-bay for half of what Hughes charges if you replace it.

I just pulled spark plug 8 and it really doesn't look good, I am leaning toward the clog cat more and more...

If #8 looks bad. Don't wait to fix the plenum. That clogging cat like's to crack heads.

Just found the part on ebay looks pretty straight forward. Since I wont start this job a week or two and cant look at it myself is there anything special about the oem plate or its just a flat plate that you can use as a template to cut a new one? Yes I have access to a machine shop.

Just a stamped steel plate. Would work great as a template to cut your own.
