Sounds like the converter exploded. Remove the pan and see what it looks like inside.

+1 on that. Not moving at all is typical of converter failure, although converter failure is not all that common....unless you run it too low on fluid.

If converted is shelled - the transmissin has to be rebuilt or replaced. Ther debris goes to every seal, each clutch pack, everywhere.....

If the fluid smelled burnt, it's transmission rebuild time.

I've never known an auto tranny to live beyond, at most, 12,000 miles once the fluid has heated to the extent you can smell it. Many times is way less than that ... like 10 miles.

And here Is a quote of what I read about the sump 'filter' :

"it sounds like the torque converter isnt getting any fluid, and with out fluid to the torque converter it basically acts like a manual when you push the clutch in. id pull down the transmission fluid pan and bam theres your sump filter right infront of you and go to your local napa and they should have the filter, i can almost garuntee thats the issue, if it was the return filter your system would just build pressure and more than likely either blow off a line or it would keep your converter locked and when you come to a stop after driving you would stall out cause the oil in the converter has no where to go."
He must be thinking of the transmission fluid filter, it's the only filter right in front of you after you pull the pan.

That is a snap ring form a clutch pack. Or part of a snap ring. With that out, the piston pushes without anything to hold the clutches agains, and fails to engage.

Rebuild or replace time. Sorry.

What part of the country are you in?

Keep in mind that while you are driving it, damage is being done. The hard part will be finding a reputable shop. I would also recommend upgrading to the BW governor solenoid. OEM unit is weak point in these trannys. Also see if they will installa Sonnax Sure Cure Kit. It will improve shifting.

Part of the snap ring that holds the O/D unit together. Common failure. Transmission fails not too long after.....
