So after getting her running I heard a rattle and got under the truck to see if I could find where it was coming from. Rattle is coming from the cat, and the exhaust is starting to get a sour smell to it. So.... time to replace the cat, any recommendations on a cheap one? there are no emissions checks in louisiana.

Hollow it out until you figger out what killed it. If you are running rich, that will kill the next one too.

is that going to mess up the air fuel mixture? Should I expect a CEL as well?

It may whine about cat efficiency, but, there's a workaround for that as well. (non-foulers, DIY in faq section.)

I read up on that yesterday (I was thinking of just cutting it off and replacing with a straight pipe to the muffler, Louisiana doesn't have any emissions checks) but I thought that only applied to the post cat o2. I'll reread to check out the pre cat o2 sensor.

I've been thinking about doing that too, Georgia (and the area in Virginia we'll be moving too) don't do emission's check's either.

Let me know how it works, and a before/after video of the exhaust sound

Don't do the non-fouler trick on the front O2. You WANT that one to get an accurate read on the exhaust stream.

Non-fouler trick for the rear O2, is to fool the PCM into thinking the cat is still there, so, it won't set codes, or, adjust fuel trims in a vain attempt to heat up a cat that isn't there.... in order to get the numbers where it expects them to be.

If you were in a GM vehicle, I would suspect the EGR is not moving freely.
