Default Unexpected HUGE fuel economy gain.

Ok, so I recently bought a Cold Air Intake. I fully realize CAI's claims of fuel economy and horsepower gain are minimal at best, I really only bought the thing for the looks, but no word of a lie since I bolted this thing on I am getting 100k more out of a tank of gas.

I also just started running 91 Octane fuel due to a bit of ping when under load, could that have something to do with it maybe?

Before I changed the fuel and got the CAI I was getting 550k TOPS out of a full tank, This past tank I got 650k. I did not change my driving habits at all. This is daily driver I take to work and back, that's it. No Towing / Hauling.

I'm not complaining, but I just didn't think I would see these kind of returns!

where i live there is no ethanol in the 91 octane gas so if it is the same where you live then that might explain parts of your increase. ethanol can decrease your fuel mileage.

I am guessing maybe a combination of stock filter was dirty and ethanol gas in the lesser octane fuel.

Driving around town with 10% ethanol, 89 octane fuel (cheapest out here), I get anywhere from 15 MPG to 15.5 MPG, mostly city driving. If I fill up with 91 octane, no ethanol, I get 16.5 to 17 MPG. Back when I had the Ram, I'd get 12 to 13 MPG in town with 10% ethanol, 89 octane, and 13 to 14 MPG in town when I used 91 octane fuel (no ethanol).

To clarify, I doubt the higher octane did anything. Pretty sure it was 99% the fact that there was ethanol or not in the fuel.

And knowing how many gallons/liters would be more accurate than tankful.

I recently changed where I've been getting gas. For years I've gotten gas from Sheetz and now I get it from uni-mart and wow what a difference....I was getting 9.5mpg and now I'm getting 13.

As far as I know Sheetz is just a Pennsylvania thing. A couple guys at work claim sheetz gas has a lot of ethanol in it. Another friend of mine switched gas in his golf and says his gas mileage went up 6mpg.

I've been using sheetz gas since I've been 16 (now 24) and wished i would have switched sooner.
