Here's a 46rh-->NV3500 swap in a Dakota 318ci

So here is the list of parts that are needed...
  • Transmission
  • Transfer Case (if 4x4)
  • Brake/Clutch pedal assembly with hardware
  • Hydraulics (master cyl, lines, and slave cyl... comes as an assembled, non-serviceable unit)
  • Flywheel (engine specific)
  • Bolts - Flywheel to crankshaft (same thread pattern as flex plate bolts, must be 1 inch long and grade 8)
  • Bolts - Pressure plate to Flywheel (don't remember the pattern or length, but they must also be grade 8)
  • Clutch kit (clutch plate, pressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bearing)
  • Pilot Bearing Sleeve (Best to get it direct from Dodge.. PN 5300 9180 for 3.9L and 5.2L)
  • Manual transmission specific crankshaft position sensor
  • Rear driveshaft (if you can't find a factory one, you can get one custom made... needs to be 7 inches longer)
  • Front driveshaft (if 4x4... if you can't find a factory one, you can get one custom made... needs to be 7 inches shorter)
Get all these things ahead of time and the swap can be done in a weekend!

Yup I believe that's all ya gotta do. Swap out the input shaft of the transfer case as they are different sizes

No.

And no.

The entire main shaft and rear half of the tranny case needs to be swapped, requiring complete disassembly of a difficult to rebuild tranny.

Certainly more work and $ than rebuilding. Probably higher than buying a mega viper, and not as good a tranny to boot. Not to mention adding clutch pedal assy, cuttin hole in floor.....

if it isnt just a new input/output shaft driveshaft and clutch then no its not worth it.

I disagree.

How many "mega vipers" out there have 215k on them with 35k of boosted small block in front of them?

NV3500 has my respect.

There are other issues that will come up. PCM controls tranny fundctions and looks for signal voltage from tranny. Not seeing these, codes will pop. To resolve, an appropriate PCM swap would be required.

I bought my Ram with a blown tranny, knowing it was blown. I rebuilt it myself using the FSM downloaded form this site.
