Testing catalytic converter
Alright since I got all worried about having a clog cat after my plenum thread I start investigating. I tried the described procedure and I removed the upstream O2 sensor and after a couple up and down on the street I had a hard time to decide if there was any improvement or not, definetly not a huge difference, just a slight improvment on the accelaration or was that just me?
Anyways, I bought a IR temp. reader to confirm, here's the results, 530F after the cat and 385F forward of it. Can anybody confirm that those readings are in spec?

I guess I should have answered the question in the other thread. LOL Seems fine to me.

I feel the love here!!
I read that yahoo page before but I am always partial on those and rather confirm with somebody who actally did it. I called around before I bought the IR reader and nobody around here test cats, go figure.

I have done it with all the tests. And the back pressure test and vac test are both equal provided you have the equipment, and better than the heat test which is ok if the cat is totally shot.
