Trucks that had the heavy duty, or, tow package, had an aux cooler mounted between the radiator, and condenser. It is indeed a factory piece. Sounds like the PO had the trans done, and instead of cleaning out the in-radiator cooler, just bypassed it.

 

I'd bypass again with one mounted on the outside. I pulled my condenser loose and started to install cooler between cond and rad, but I dercided to go outside so I could keep an eye on hose connection in case it started leaking. This was the easiest on I ever installed as the grill moves out of the way when you open the hood. It was so easy, it almost scared me away. Things are not supposed to be that easy!

 

Yeah thats what i will prolly do. Remove current cooler and replace with a b&m on the outside with a spare 13" fan on top that i have laying around. Whats weird is that this truck has never had a hitch or ball installed on it...

 

I take that back it looks like at one time it did have a hitch on it but i see no trailer harnessn

 

Plow package (heavy duty package) also included the trans cooler.

 

replaced tranny cooler today with the biggest Hayden unit i could find locally. Good for 10k+ lbs., recommended for RVs and 5th wheel rigs. Swap was fairly simple. Here are some pics.


Im guessing this is a stock cooler. it is way bigger than anything else i could find. I hope that size isnt a big deal with a tranny cooler cause the replacment is much smaller.


Thats where my leak was coming from. The solder had started coming loose. I am thinking about having it repaired at the radiator shop and reinstalling it or just keeping it just in case.





I installed the new one back in the stock location.







I also degreased the engine bay since it had got a thick coat of tranny fluid over all of it.

 

That Hayden ought to work. I put the same thing on my RV and one that is the next size smaller on my Ram.
